Marketing Manager

Job Title: Marketing Manager

Salary: £23-25k pro rata

Location: UP Studios, Hamble, with the option for some work from home


Hours: 15 hours per week (flexible times, but occasional evening and weekend work will be required)

Contract: 6 months freelance (changing to permanent employed contract after 6 months for the right candidate)

What You Will Do


  • Coordinating and overseeing all marketing and communication activities 

  • Create content for and manage our multiple website and social media channels, ensuring that everything is on brand, accurate, relevant and engaging

  • Monitor and respond to online comments, questions and reviews, reporting and escalating response handling where necessary

  • Increasing awareness of Unexpected Places and our multiple strands of work

  • Contribute to the development of Unexpected Places marketing strategy and organisational profile

  • Devise, deliver and evaluate marketing campaigns across all strands of the organisation 

  • Manage and build relationships with other arts organisations, community partners, schools and funders.

  • Collaborate with our Youth Theatre Manager  in celebrating the achievements and successes of our students 

  • To work closely with the Artistic Director on the implementation of branding guidelines across all areas of the business

  • To write press releases and network with press contacts, raising the profile of the business

  • To use Canva to create on brand marketing materials for all aspects of the organisation

  • To lead on the company's presence at festivals, fayres and other similar marketing and community building events and activities including organising, attending and ensuring the company gets the most out of said opportunities

  • To lead on the constant review and revision of the Light UP, Unexpected Places and UP Studios websites ensuring content is attractive, correct and mobile optimised 

  • To plan, write, schedule and send regular e-newsletters across the different areas of the company

  • To support Franchisees with their marketing including basic training and providing them with materials

Light UP Teacher - Emsworth

Job Title: Drama Teacher

Salary: £18.50 - £25 per hour depending on experience

Location: Emsworth Community Centre


Hours: Thursday 4-6pm

Start date: 7th November

Deadline for application: 31st October

Interview Date: 1st November

What You Will Do


  • Teach five-star drama classes, either from the Light UP ‘bank’ or of your own creation

  • Communicate effectively with the Youth Theatre Manager on your classes progress, needs and basic class administration

  • Take the register, email students who have missed two consecutive classes, write a short end of class report at the end of each session

  • Get the props and costumes that are needed for any performances/tasks in your class from the Light UP store (at Light UP HQ)

  • Help your students to thrive and improve in their confidence and self-esteem

  • Communicate performance times and progress to parents both verbally and via email

  • Take photos of classes (where appropriate) to send to the Light UP Marketing team

  • Respond to emails and messages from the Youth Theatre Manager and Director

  • Work with your Assistant Teacher to establish a fantastic working relationship to benefit your classes

  • Attend production meetings and staff training where needed ( this is included in your hourly fee)

  • Manage behaviour in class to ensure all feel included, engaged and supported

  • Adhere to Light UP’s Child Protection Policy, Privacy Policy and Staff Policy at all times

  • Be prepared to have fun and help young people to shine!

Essential Skills Required:

  • A minimum of one years drama teaching experience.

  • A degree in a drama/theatre subject

  • A current DBS 

  • Ability to think on your feet and deliver outstanding drama classes

  • Able to prepare, organise and lead performances

  • Good administration and written English skills to communicate to students and their families

  • A personable, friendly and infectious personality

  • A passion for working with children 


Desirable Skills:

  • Paediatric First Aid Trained

  • Driver (due to some of our class locations and prop store)

  • Experience in putting on performances

Finance Administrator 

Job Title: Finance Administrator 


Line Manager: Director

Salary: £8.50 an hour

Hours: 4 hours a week (may increase

Start date: Immediate

What You Will Do

The main responsibility of the role is to be the point of contact for Light UP and Steppin’ UP customers with queries about their fees. You will ensure the smooth running of our cash flow by monitoring and following up on late payments, issuing invoices to customers and providing statements to customers when they leave our classes. We are looking for a confident people person with a keen eye for detail, to join our friendly and ambitious team. 

  • Key responsibilities will include the following:  

  • Half-termly invoicing for class fees

  • Ensuring all payments have been made in a timely manner

  • Emailing and calling customers with overdue fees

  • Answering queries from customers regarding their accounts

  • Processing leavers accounts and issuing refunds

Person Specification


  • Have excellent attention to detail

  • Confident phone manner

  • An excellent communicator

  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately  

  • Ability to talk to customers with ease and confidence verbally and through email

  • Dependable and trustworthy

  • Good computer skills, with the ability to pick up new software quickly



  • Experience of using Xero accounting

  • Experience of working with an arts/ after school organisation

  • Good technical knowledge of current accounting standards and developments including knowledge of Charity Accounting 

  • Enthusiasm for theatre and the performing arts
