Every week I teach around 300 children, teenagers and adults through group Light UP classes, LAMDA tuition and private classes. I have an amazing job; at one point in my day I can be pretending to be a penguin with the little ones, the next, planning our next exciting performance project and then directing our talented students in a big production. The best part of my job is helping young people feel more confident doing what they love. The worst part is having to do the paperwork in the office!
I started Light UP (formerly known as Acting UP) in 2014 because I wanted to start affordable drama classes for families for my community. Since then, Light UP and our vision has grown, merging with the aim of our sister company, Unexpected Places, to create performances in, from and leading to unexpected places into our youth theatres productions too.
I trained in European Theatre Arts at the Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance in London, where I specialised in devising theatre, before performing internationally, winning “Outstanding Contribution to Theatre” in Bratislava, Slovakia, with a graduate company.
I then spent several years working as a drama leader for other companies and in arts marketing, alongside my acting and directing work with Unexpected Places.
For Unexpected Places I have directed From Scraps, A Wheelie Excycling Advenure, Outsourcing Memory, Our Neck of the Woods and Blighty One. For more information about my work with Unexpected Places, please click here.
I hope to meet you at one of our classes soon!
